This special message was created by sand artist Sean Corcoran on The Copper Coast in Ireland today. Sean had the following to say;

“First of all THANK YOU to all the doctors, nurses and hospital staff for their amazing bravery at this difficult time. The dedication that you are all showing is extraordinary. You are our heroes”.

#SuperDoc #SuperNurse #SuperStaff

“Now it is our turn to play our part. We need to support the front line staff by acting responsibly. We need to protect ourselves, our families, our friends, our neighbours and the wider community. We need to stop the spread of this virus. We need to be informed and we need to take this seriously”.

A lock-down has been declared in Ireland which means that EVERYONE MUST STAY AT HOME in all circumstances EXCEPT the following;

To travel to and from work for the purposes of work only where the work is essential as per the list at the link; https://www.gov.ie

To shop for food or household goods or collect a meal.

To attend medical appointments or collect medicines and other health products.For vital family reasons such as providing care to children, elderly or vulnerable people.

To take brief individual personal exercise within 2km of your own home which may include children from your own household as long as you adhere to 2 metre physical distancing.

For farming purposes that is food production and care of animals.

All public and private gatherings of any number of people outside a single household or living unit are prohibited.

This prohibition includes social family visits that are not for vital reasons already mentioned.

Adult community education centres and local community centres will be shut.

All non-essential surgery and health procedures and all other non-essential health services will be postponed.

All visits to hospitals, residential healthcare settings and prisons are to cease, with specific exceptions on compassionate grounds.

Shielding or cocooning will be introduced for all those 70 years of age and specified categories of people who are extremely vulnerable to Covid-19. See Link; https://www.hpsc.ie

Travel to our offshore islands will be limited to residents of those islands.

Pharmacists will be permitted to dispense medicines outside of the current period of validity with an existing prescription in line with the pharmacists clinical judgement.

All public transport and passenger travel will be restricted to essential workers and people providing essential services.

Outside of the reasons listed there is to be no travel outside a 2km radius of your home for any reason.

“Finally I would just like to say that I’m very fortunate to live at the heart of a beautiful region called The Copper Coast in Waterford, Ireland. I created this sand art on Kilmurrin Cove which is 1.5km from our front door here at The Art Hand. I’m personally on day 10 of a self quarantine having returned recently from a project in the States. Stay safe everyone and please consider sharing this video to help show our appreciation for our medical staff. The soundtrack for this video is courtesy of Norwegian composer Alexander Nakarada.”

Ask for help...Offer your help.
We are all in this together.
We all need to play our part.

This piece of sand art by Sean Corcoran was inspired by the Irish governments new initiative called ‘The Community Call’ which is an unprecedented mobilisation of both state and voluntary resources to coordinate community activity to where it is needed most.

A message from Sean Corcoran; I don't often explain the background to my work but here goes...I believe we need to stand together right now to overcome this global crisis. I try to keep my work positive and I usually keep politics out of it but...I have to say it saddens me deeply at the moment to witness how the American public is being manipulated by their president. All I can see are his attempts to apportion blame in order to make up for his own failures during this pandemic. I believe that Americans are dying because of his actions and inactions. His only agenda appears to be the elections in November. I have faith that Americans citizens will realise what is actually happening under their noses. I have many friends in the States and I really hope this doesn't offend any of you but I'm just trying to give you my honest opinion from the outside looking in.

Today I have been looking at the philosophy of Martin Luther King in an attempt to make sense of it all. The following quote of his sums up the kind of approach that I too like to use…“Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction.”

Celtic Fusion...Sand Art on Bunmahon Beach today by Sean Corcoran. "It was my first time to venture beyond 2km since returning from a project in Texas nearly 8 weeks ago. This is part of a series of solo drawings I'm working on that I've been trying to capture with my drone. I only have 2 batteries for my drone and they each last for a maximum of 20 minutes. I'd usually have more time to create a drawing so this limitation means I need to be more innovative with my approach and timing. You might be able to see that I do rough outlines of the artwork in advance using a stick. I see these artworks as a cross over between performance art, animation and sand art. The scale of the artworks is a lot more limited but the process is a lot more intense. Excited about the potential of this new technique for bigger projects in the future. The music in this video is by Norwegian composer Alexander Nakarada."
