Supersonic Sand LIVE

A live stage version of Supersonic Sand is currently touring festivals and outdoor events. The electronic artists perform live as part of a unique audio visual experience. This live show has already been featured at the Anseo festival in Waterford and Kerry as well as being one of the main attractions of the upcoming Winter Firedance Festival in Waterford. In this case a 6 metre LED screen will showcase the collaborations and illuminate the performers. This event at Kilmurrin Cove will incorporate a spectacular Fireworks show!

Sand and Sound… Sean Corcoran draws massive pictures on beaches with a garden rake! In each episode Sean collaborates with a different electronic music artist. Many up and coming Irish artists are featured as well as more established artists in Europe and the States. This cutting edge project marries the impermanence of sand art with the transcendent escapism of electronic music. The resulting art-scapes offer a unique audio visual experience. As well as the film releases a series of interviews are being created of each of the collaborations and there are plans to release an album and a documentary of the project.

Collaboration… Supersonic Sand is being co-produced by Rebecca Cappuccini of Viking Promotions who had the following to say;

This is such a creative and unique project. It’s like nothing I’ve ever come across. It’s so great to work with so many amazingly talented artists. Our intention is to produce a series of 12 videos and a series of recorded interviews. Perhaps there will be an album on Spotify of the entire series. Perhaps we will compile the interviews and videos as a documentary…That’s what makes it so exciting, not knowing exactly what it will turn into!

Our Process… In most cases the music and sand art is specially created for each individual collaboration. The resulting videos contain high speed time-lapses of the sand art being created. This footage is captured from a massive home-made tripod that Sean calls his Giraffe! Sean incorporates other footage into some of the videos too including a cliff fire, cloud sequences, aerial footage and the foaming shore.

Sean Corcoran (The Art Hand) is an internationally renowned artist having worked all around Ireland and the UK and even as far as Texas. Many of his projects attract huge media attention and earlier this year a photo of one of his artworks was voted in the Top 100 images in the Press Photographer of the Year Awards. He was recently commissioned by Fáilte Ireland to create a sand art map of Ireland to celebrate the reopening of the tourism and hospitality industry. He has also worked on projects with Amnesty International, The Welsh Government, Google, Sanofi, The Green Party, Tourism Ireland, RTE TV, Virgin Media TV, BBC Radio 4. Sean has previously worked with artists, composers and dancers including Cheryl Beer, Micko Roche, Eric Sweeney, Laura Jane Jenkins, Moby and Benjamin Tissot.

Colin Foy of DeMars Magazine recently had the following to say about Sean and the Supersonic sand project. Full article HERE.

Sean Corcoran is something of a modern day alchemist. An artist who can take the most ordinary of things and turn it into artistic gold. Sean has been creating some truly spectacular pieces on the picturesque beaches of Ireland, armed with only a garden rake and his own limitless imagination. Corcoran’s work is bringing sand art to the fore in new and exciting ways, and this latest project has all the hallmarks of a master’s grand opus.

Rebecca Cappuccini (aka The Viqueen) runs a business called Viking Promotions. Prior to Covid Viking Promotions ran and promoted music gigs in Waterford and further afield. Since then she has continued to support the industry through her hugely successful podcast series “Creative Cabin Fever” where she has interviewed over 250 artists about their various experiences in the last 18 months. She was also one of the presenters for ‘Transmission Music Festival’ that featured 18 Irish artists in a 10 hour live stream. She was the coordinator for Cyprus Avenue’s live stream series ‘Winter Song’ which showcased 32 Irish acts including Gavin James, Lyra and Red Sun Alert. She also manages Cork’s own ‘The Last Vinci’.

Here’s a quote from a recent article by Colin Foy in DeMars Magazine. Full article HERE.

‘The Viqueen’ has her own built in diviner which seeks out and identifies pure talent, and the manner with which she envisions the potential for brilliance is a truly remarkable gift. It’s no exaggeration to say that the pairing of Sean’s molten talent, and Rebecca’s unwavering spirit, is a mouth-watering proposition.
